The deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Princess Abiodun Oyefusi has urged elected National Assembly lawmakers to zone the Senate presidency and Speakership seats to women.
She made this request on Monday while speaking on political participation in Lagos, adding that with women occupying the seats, the federal legislature would bring about having an inclusive government in the country.
She said, “I am using this opportunity to call on all elected lawmakers to zone the Speaker and Senate President positions to the female gender.
“This will substantiate the reality of running an inclusive government. Such action will be described as a show of peace and understanding”
She further urged politicians to embrace the verdict on the implementation of the national gender policy granted in favour of Nigerian women by Honourable Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court.
In June 2023, the 10th National Assembly would be inaugurated after the swearing-in of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
