Following a meeting with representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced a reduction in its fees.

According to a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, the management of the university held a meeting with the executive members of the student body and other faculty members on Thursday evening.

“Authorities of the University of Lagos led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, on Thursday, September 14, 2023, had a meeting with the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Comrade Usman Umar Barambu accompanied by top officers of the Association and UNILAG Faculty leaders drawn from nine faculties of the University and College of Medicine,” the statement read.

According to the statement, at the commencement of the meeting, NANS President, Comrade Umar Barambu stated the demands of the students including the reversal of obligatory fees, the reversal of hostel fees, and the reinstatement of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) in UNILAG.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor of the UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, restated the university’s objective of delivering quality education to its students irrespective of class, tribe or creed.
