The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the extension of the closing date for the ongoing 2023 Direct Entry (DE) registration. Initially scheduled to end on April 20, 2023, the registration exercise has been extended by one week starting from Friday, April 21, 2023.

The extension is to enable holders of Cambridge A/Level certificates who are yet to not register to do so within the new time frame. The British Council sent a high-level delegation to meet with JAMB’s management to discuss the establishment of a reliable verification platform for Cambridge A/L Certificates. The Council is in partnership with The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board to provide a verification portal for the seamless verification of Cambridge certificates. This led to a decision to reconsider its earlier stance on the non-inclusion of Cambridge certificates for Direct entry registration. The examination body said the move is in order to simplify the direct entry registration process.

JAMB had previously released a list of approved certificates for registration, which did not initially include the Cambridge Certificate. This move aimed to prevent the falsification of results, which has been a common problem with many other A/L certificates accepted for Direct entry requirements, according to JAMB.

JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, clarified that candidates awaiting Cambridge Certificates as “Awaiting Results” would not be accepted. He directed those with Cambridge Certificates to register for the 2023 Direct entry at any JAMB office nearest to them.
