Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have arrested the King of Akoh Kingdom, Rivers State, His Royal Majesty Eze Ikegbidi.

Reports gathered that the arrest, which was carried out on Monday, followed the gruesome murder of the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer, Bako Angbashim, by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

The DPO was killed and beheaded by the assailants on Friday night during an operation with his men in the area.

The arrest of Ikegbidi by the DSS operatives came on the heels of an indefinite suspension slammed on him by the State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara.

Governor Fubara had in a statement, accused the monarch of “ceding control of his territory to the notorious David Gift popularly known as 2-Baba and his gang to freely operate and carry out their criminal activities.”

The Governor had also placed a N100,000,000 bounty on the prime suspect, saying anyone with useful information that could lead to his arrest and prosecution should report to relevant authorities.

It was gathered that the monarch was later handed over to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department in Port Harcourt, the State capital, for interrogation.

When contacted by the Press, The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko said she does not have details of the arrest.
