The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of electoral materials for this Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly elections.

This comes three days after the electoral commission assured Nigerians on Sunday that reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Registration Systems (BVAS) would be completed by Tuesday (yesterday) in preparation for the polls.

INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, also noted that the results of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections from over 170,000 polling units had been uploaded on its Results Viewing Portal (IReV).

According to INEC the exercise is starting earlier to prevent a repeat of late arrivals of voting materials to the polling units during Saturday’s polls.

The commission which admitted to its shortcomings during the presidential and national assembly elections told voters that all contending issues in the last elections have been addressed.

Agents of the various political parties who monitored the election materials distribution exercise commended INEC for the early movement of the sensitive materials.

With the governorship and state assembly elections a matter of days ahead, Nigerians will be watching to see how far INEC has gone to address the shortcomings of the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.
