Olalekan Fadolapo, the Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), has suspended its Director and Deputy Director of Regulations over their approval of the ‘All Eyes on Judiciary’ billboard advert in Abuja.
Fadolapo disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, the pair were suspended for failing to follow due diligence by approving an advert “blackmailing the Nigerian Judiciary and the Honorable Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.”
He added that the Advert could instigate public unrest and breach of public peace.
“Consequently, the Director and Deputy Director, Regulations, have also been suspended. The suspension is to enable an unprejudiced investigation of the issue,” he said.
The said Advert, “ALL Eyes on the Judiciary”, is coming amid anxiety as Nigerians await the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
It was recalled that following the declaration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, challenged the victory.
