The Sokoto State Executive Council, during its 10th sitting on Wednesday, approved the proposed draft budget for 2025, which is set to be presented to the State Assembly by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Balarabe Kadadi, briefed reporters, emphasizing that the draft aligns with Governor Aliyu’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

The proposal prioritizes health, education, skills acquisition, religious affairs, and tackling security challenges such as banditry and kidnapping.

“We are committed to driving sustained efforts for the state’s economic prosperity and peaceful coexistence of its citizens,” Kadadi stated.

The council also approved multiple contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of township roads within Sokoto metropolis, particularly in the Mabera area. These projects align with the governor’s 9-point agenda to modernize and reposition Sokoto as a thriving urban center.

Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, detailed the contracts awarded:

Mabera Axis Roads: Rehabilitation from U/Rogo to Kantin Sani at ₦729.8 million.

Kantin Sani to Gidan Bulon Magaji: Construction at ₦841 million.

Tafarki Road to Eastern Bypass: Development at ₦1.566 billion.

Burtali Junction to Masallacin Lukuwa: Project cost of ₦756 million.

Massallacin Adinere to General Murtala Hospital: Construction for ₦502 million.

Buzaye Road: Rehabilitation at ₦674.9 million.

Dantsoho assured that all road projects are expected to be executed and completed within six months. He expressed optimism that by 2025, all township roadworks in the Sokoto metropolitan area would be completed and handed over to the government.

The projects aim to improve transportation and connectivity for motorists and commuters in Sokoto’s urban areas, reflecting the administration’s commitment to infrastructural development.
