THE MID-MORNING SHOW  🎙️ 9AM-11AM

MAJOR TALKING POINT 🎙️
ACCOUNTABILITY IN GOVERNMENT: Should State Governors be held accountable for the corruption in Nigeria?

As Nigeria struggles with the pervasive scourge of corruption, the spotlight shifts to the state governors, tasked with shepherding the country’s subnational governments. With allegations of embezzlement and mismanagement rampant at the state level, the question arises:

Recently, the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and some of his appointees were accused of embezzling 423 billion naira of state funds.

• Given this situation, is it appropriate to establish a panel to investigate the administration of past governors?

• Should the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission intervene, especially considering its handling of the case involving former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello who has yet to address allegations of corruption against him?

• Ultimately, does Nigeria possess strong and independent institutions that can stand against corrupt leaders and governments?
