The much-publicized local government election in Anambra State expected to commence by 8 am is witnessing some hitches as officials of the state Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, and voting materials were still being expected in most of the polling units as of 10 am.
ANSIEC had earlier announced that it would adopt manual exercise in conducting the election. At the Ukwuorji polling unit in Awka South local government area, some policemen and a few voters were seen, but those to conduct the election were yet to arrive.
It is the same situation at the Aroma area of Awka where the voters were waiting to cast their votes.
At the ANSIEC headquarters, an official said all the materials had been delivered to the 21 local government areas, adding that they were expected to have been delivered to the polling units by 8 am.
In Ihiala local government area where the police said that voting for the security-threatened communities of Azia, Orsumoghu-, Mbosi, Lilu and Isekke would take place only at the council headquarters, nothing much is happening there.
Following the no movement declared by the state government, all streets were deserted, except the few people who were seen going to their voting centres.
