Ahead of the AFCON 2025 Match day 3 and 4 qualifying game between Nigeria and the Mediterranean Knights, the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has sacked Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević (Micho).

This follows Libya’s poor run in the first two rounds of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco next year.

Mediterranean Knights’ drew 1-1 with Rwanda in Tripoli, and the loss of its last match against Benin.

Thie hastened the sacking of Micho, despite the fact that the team has two important matches on October 6 and 14 against Nigeria: the first leg in Uyo at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and the second leg in Libya.

According to sources close to the Libyan Football Federation, there is a strong tendency to sign a national coach to lead the Libyan team during the remaining qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations.

After the first two rounds in AFCON qualifiers, the Libyan national team is at the bottom of Group D with only one point, which makes it very difficult to qualify for AFCON.

Although Micho led the Libyan national team to win nine matches since taking over the Mediterranean Knights in October of last year.
